The Problem

Pinguin Foods are a processing site that produces a varied range of frozen vegetables and chips. Their business is dictated by seasonal trends and therefore requires a flexible supply of labour to meet production demands. With direct temps in addition to agency supplied labour they found themselves and their previous agency supplier unable to provide the quantities and the calibre of temporary staff that was required.

The Requirement

Pinguin were aware of Esprit’s reputation for providing an effective staffing solution to large processing businesses throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Consequently, Esprit were contracted to supply Pinguin with a range of skilled and unskilled production workers.

The Current Situation

Due to high service levels of Esprit and having an office based on site all staff are interviewed and given a full site induction not just for their immediate working area, this allows for greater future flexibility.They are all tested to prove they have understood all they have been told. All employees are placed in areas of work best suited to their skills and abilities.They are continually monitored and as their ability and knowledge increases they are redeployed as necessary.
All employees have correct PPE issued which is checked on a regular basis and renewed when required by Esprit People Ltd.
Payroll is processed on-site and authorised by Pinguin management, consequently the percentage of incorrect pay is minimal.

The Benefit

The result has been a more capable and motivated temporary workforce providing improved productivity and allowing better utilisation of team leaders and production management time.

Communication is of such a high standard with shift supervisors and managers that the Site Manager Neil Winner recently commented “The one most outstanding benefit about Esprit is I do not have to speak to you at all. In the past I had to complain on a daily basis of one issue or another”.
